Many vs Cancer is funding breakthrough research
Team Kam Raised Over $32,000 for Prostate Cancer Research
Randy Kam wore a race T-shirt Thursday afternoon during an endurance feat more challenging than an uphill run – a three-hour chemotherapy appointment for advanced prostate cancer.
It’s hard for Kam, a dentist who works six days a week, to sit immobilized by an infusion pole for so long. But that’s the only time he stops moving. Kam, 57, will run the OC Marathon on Sunday. The 26.2-mile course marks his 125th marathon and his third since his cancer diagnosis in January
“What I told the oncologist is you can’t take away something I enjoy doing, even something as arduous as running marathons,” said Kam, who lives in Fullerton. “It’s my thing.”
These days he runs with a greater purpose.
In addition to his runner’s bib, Kam will wear a homemade sign on the back of his shirt, announcing his prostate cancer and urging men to get screened. He’s hoping he can encourage those he encounters as he perseveres one medication and one mile at a time.
